Loran Award

Value: 126 cash awards available at different levels.

Criteria: For students entering university and in their final year of full-time studies. Minimum overall average of 85% (last three years final grades).  The selection criteria includes character, commitment to community service and leadership potential.

Other Documentation: Scholarships are available to both school sponsored (3 max.) and non-sponsored students.

Loran

 

Value: 1st @ $2,000 , 2nd @ $1,500,  3rd@ $1,000

Criteria: Submit one letter of reference from a school staff member, or community representative. Provide a brief self-profile outlining their participation in school life/community activities and any interest/involvement in the pro-life cause. The student must submit a typed original essay, approximately 1,200 words in length.The essay topic :The best lack all convictions, while the worst are full of passionate intensity. W.B. Yeats, The Second Coming, 1920. Yeats was presenting a dark, apocalyptic vision of the world just after World War I. Discuss whether or how that terrifying imagery may apply to the present state of civilization, considering the abortion issue, the seeming collapse of related traditional values and an increasing confusion about the sacredness and dignity of human life.

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

Value: $28,000 (over 4 years) Closes December 1st

Criteria: Open to students of all abilities and all fields of study. Dedication to humanitarian ideals, courage in overcoming obstacles, and pursuit of excellence in academic, athletic and civic life. Financial need is not a criterion. Renewable for up to four years.

NOVEMBER

 

TD Scholarship for Community Leadership

Value: 20 – Up to $70,000 each

Criteria: Applicants must have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year and have demonstrated community leadership. Must send application by registered mail.

Essay Required: 600 word essay describing your community leadership involvement. Optional: An essay of 250 words describing your family or personal circumstances

Other Documentation: Recommendation letter from school. Two letters of support from community groups who have been the focus of your involvement.

 

DECEMBER

 

Burger King Scholarship

Value: $1,000 - $50,000

Criteria: Demonstrate an active leadership role in community service, athletics, etc. You do not need to be a Burger King employee. A cumulative average of 80% is required.  You should also demonstrate substantial work experience.

 

Fireside Catholic Publishing Essay Scholarship

Value: 5 x $1,000 (US)

Criteria: Recognizes a top religion student. Criterion includes outstanding leadership in embracing religious education. Financial need is not a consideration.

Nomination: Yes - 1 only per school

Essay Required: 750 words max. (topic provided)

Other Documentation: Student application and Faculty Rep. forms must be completed and submitted with essay.

 

Horatio Alger Ontario Scholarship Program  https://horatioalger.ca/en/scholarships/

Value: Awards up to $10,000

Criteria: Program provides assistance to students with financial need who have displayed perseverance in overcoming adversity, maintained a minimum grade of 65%, and plan to complete a degree. Applicants must be year 4, enrolled full-time, and involved in co-curricular and community activities

Essay Required: Two required essays

Other Documentation: Certification form from school, an online letter of support and a copy of each parent's most recent annual income tax return

Canadian Women in Municipal Government

Value: $1,000

Criteria: Open to female students enrolled in any year of study who are contributing to their school's leadership teams or student council.

Essay Required: Research essay - 750 to 1,000 words - topic provided

  Value: $1,000 - $2,500

  Criteria: Student was born in Portugal or at least one parent is of Portuguese origin.

Award CriteriaThis scholarship of $4,000 is granted to a full-time first year student(whether a high school, mature and transfer student) who is a member of a parish within the Diocese of London and whose financial situation makes the pursuit of a University education unusually difficult.  This award is intended to encourage the education of those with the potential to make a positive contribution to the Catholic community and to the common good of society.  Candidates must demonstrate large financial need, meet the minimun academic entrance requirements and provide a pastor letter os reference.  If the student remains registered full-time, maintains a minimum average of 70%. demonstrates continued involvement in a parish and includes one credit in Catholic Studies, or Religious Studies with a Catholic theme, within his or her degree credits, a scholarship of $3000.00 is renewable for year 2, 3 and 4.  The Bishop Sherlock may not be held concurrently with another King's Entrance Scholarship or King's Continuing Scholarship.  This award may not be granted each year.

Kin Canada – Hal Rogers Endowment Fund

Value: $1,000

Criteria: This bursary is awarded based on financial need, community and school involvement, and knowledge of Kin Canada. You must be a full-time year 4 student who demonstrates high ideals and qualities of citizenship.

Other Documentation: Provide proof of citizenship.  Application must be sent to local club only.

 

RBC Aboriginal Student Awards Program

Value: 20 x Vauled up to $10,000 per year

Criteria: Selection for the award is based primarily on personal and academic achievements and financial need. You must maintain a full course load leading to a degree, certificate or diploma. Open to students who are Indian, Inuit or Metis.

RBC Future Launch Scholarship

Value:  $1,500.00

Criteria: Applications must be submitted online. You do not have to be a Royal Bank client however, children of Royal Bank employees are not eligible to apply. You must have achieved a minimum 75% average in your last completed year of study.

 

 

Schulich Leader Scholarship

Value: 25 x $80,000 25 x $60,000

Criteria: A Year 4 Student enrolling in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) studies at one of 20 pre-selected universities. Must possess at least 2 of 3 of the following attributes: outstanding community, business or entrepreneurial leadership; academic excellence; financial need.

Nomination: Yes - 1 only per school

Essay Required: 600 word essay demonstrating why they would make a great Schulich Leader

Other Documentation: 2 reference letters (at least one academic)

 

Stacey Levitt Memorial Award

Value: $2,500

Criteria: Essay must address the following: how do you demonstrate a long life lived to the fullest? – how are you helping others to achieve this? – how do you demonstrate values of nobility, courage and inclusivity? – how do you plan to use the funding?

Essay Required: 2 pages max.

Other Documentation: Recommendation letter from school or community.

 

Wally Scott Minor Hockey Bursary

Value: 2 x $1,000 - $2,500

Criteria: Must have been a registered OMHA player for a minimum of 5 years. Must maintain a high standard of academic excellence. Active in any local community sport or social program.

Essay Required: One page letter outlining the request.

Other Documentation: One-page letter from the local minor hockey association president supporting the request.

Educational Fund Allan Simpson Closes March 1st

Value: Amount varies each year.

Criteria: Assistance for young people who are orphans.  Renewable if the applicant maintains a passing grade in all courses as a full-time student.

Diabetes Hope Foundation

Value: 25 x $2,500 Closes March 4th

Criteria: Recognizes students who demonstrate active involvement in their community and/or sports activities while engaging in healthy self-management of their diabetes.

Essay Required: Choose 1 of 2 essay topics provided (1,000 word maximum)

Other Documentation: 2 letters of reference (1 medical and 1 non-medical)

 

Girl Guides Canada

Value: 25 awards ranging from $2,000 (Full time) to (Part-time worth $1,000)

Criteria: Open to members who are pursuing a post-secondary education at a recognized college, university or trades program on a full-time or part-time basis. Applicants must remain a Girl Guides member for the 2017-18 guiding year.

Essay Required: Short essay questions that lets them know what guiding has meant to you.

Royal Canadian Legion Bursary

Value: $500 per scholastic year Closes March 29th

Criteria: Awarded based on financial need. Available to ex/currently serving members of The Canadian Forces (Regular or Reserve), to war veterans and their children/grandchildren as well as ordinary and life members or associate members of the Royal Canadian Legion or ladies' auxiliary members and their children/grandchildren.

Other Documentation: Student must be applying to OSAP. A portion of the form must be completed by the Legion Branch of the student's sponsor.  Applications must be mailed.

 

CST Foundation

Value: 25x $6,000 to support students in financial need

The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation supports access to post-secondary education (PSE) for all Canadians. We are passionate about higher learning and believe that finances should not be a barrier to accessing post-secondary education.
In honour of notable members of the Canadian Scholarship Trust family, we are excited to provide $150,000 worth of bursaries to students facing financial barriers in order to help them access post-secondary education. The bursary can be used to cover tuition as well as school-related expenses such as books, supplies, or living expenses.
The bursaries are intended for students who can demonstrate financial need, and whose financial need may make it difficult for them to continue their studies. Students must be the first generation in their family to attend post-secondary education*.

London & District Stroke Award – This award is for students who have experienced a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). One (1) award of $500.00 per year is to be issued, although more can be issued if appropriate. The award has been established to provide financial support to assist the student in completing their education or to assist with rehabilitation during a difficult time. Students must provide medical confirmation. The deadline to apply is May of each year; award is to be issued in October of each year, although these dates can be adjusted to coincide with your graduation dates. Barrie Family Scholarships

Learn with Lerners Bursary & Mentorship Program  Due Date May 15th

At Lerners, we believe that diversity in the legal services industry is integral to providing effective legal representation.  That is why we are excited to continue our Learn with Lerners Bursary & Mentorship Program as part of our efforts to help address the systemic barriers experienced early on by Black, Indigenous and People of Colour in the legal services industry.

This program is offered to recent graduates of publically funded secondary schools in Ontario, who are interested in careers in the legal services industry and plan to attend college or university in the 2022-23 academic year. 

New in 2022, Lerners is proud to announce that, building off last year’s success, we are expanding this year’s program to select two recipients of a $5,000.00 CAD bursary and up to twelve months of mentorship with a Lerners lawyer.

Effective immediately, we are accepting applications through our website where you can find more details and apply. Applications will be accepted until 11:59pm EST on May 15th, 2022.

Qualifications

Students who graduated high school (or will graduate by end of June 2022) and have been admitted to a first-year program at an Ontario college or university in September 2022, or January 2023, are eligible for the Learn with Lerners Bursary & Mentorship Program. Eligible candidates must:

  •      Be a member of Ontario’s racialized community (i.e. Black, Indigenous or a Person of Colour).
  •      Be 21 years of age or less at the start of the 2022-23 academic year.
  •      Be interested in pursuing a career in the legal services industry (broadly defined).
  •      Have been admitted to a first-year program at an Ontario post-secondary college or university and plan to attend on a full-time basis during the 2022-23 academic year.
  •      Meet all other eligibility criteria set out in the Terms and Conditions.
  •      Agree to our Bursary & Mentorship Privacy Policy.

Father Ernie Deslippe Memorial Scholarship

 Value:2 x $1000.00 Due June 9th

 All applicants must be a practicing Roman Catholic from the Elgin County Roman Catholic Family of Parishes (letter from your parish priest required).

All applicants must have attended a Secondary School (Catholic, Public, Private or Emersion) in the past two years.  Letter of proof required from the Secondary School along with recent marks.

Applicants should be the child of a father or grandchild of a grandfather who is a member in good standing of Fr. Ernie Deslippe Council 1467 or a deceased member. (Applications from students who are not related to a member or deceased member of the Knights of Columbus will also be accepted).

Complete applications must include a current Ontario Student Status Form.

Applicants must be accepted by a University, College, or any recognized Trade School.  A copy of the acceptance letter must be provided. Proof of Registration and initial payment of tuition fees must be provided before issuance of the scholarship.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to highlight their Academic achievements and voluntarism in School, Parish, Council 1467, and Community activities.

Applicants are also to write a typed essay of approx. 500 words (650 max) on one of the following topics: 1. How God reflects on your life, your life goals and family life or 2. How can you be faithful to God, Community and Family. Videos are not accepted. Essays completed using AI will be detected and rejected. The file should be converted to a PDF file for submission.

Completed applications must be received by Council 1467 via [email protected] or dropped of at the main office at St Joseph’s High School by the June 9th midnight in the year the applicant is graduating from Secondary School.  Applications received after the deadline shall not be accepted.

Amount of Award – 6 awards at $1,500 each (1 per school) The Bob McCaig Elgin County Award was established in 2020 to honour the memory of Bob McCaig and his legacy of commitment to community, education and the environment.  Student applications will be received from all Elgin County secondary schools (Arthur Voaden, Secondary School, Central Elgin Secondary School, East Elgin Secondary School, Parkside Collegiate Institute, St. Joseph’s Catholic High School and West Elgin Secondary School) and the recipient will be chosen based on the following Criteria:  Applicant will show excellence in academic achievement, school extra-curricular activities, and community-involvement.  Preference given to a student with financial need.  A copy of your academic transcript, documentation of volunteer  work,  and proof of enrolment in an accredited Canadian College or University.  In one or two sentences tell the committee why you are the best candidate for this   scholarship  Please Note: All applicants will turn in their completed application to their school’s guidance department. The Elgin Federation of Agriculture (EFA) is a member-based county affiliate of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA), one of Ontario’s general farm organizations. The EFA supports and advocates on behalf of 1100+ farm families in the County of Elgin, while raising awareness of the importance of agricultural and food systems. The EFA would like to assist EFA members and their families through the development of an educational bursary. The $500 cash bursary will be awarded to a family member of a EFA member. The bursary will be given to an applicant that demonstrates their ability and desire to use their post- secondary education to the benefit of agriculture.
