Direct from the Director: We Give Thanks!

Over the course of the past week we gathered as school communities to pray, to give thanks and to celebrate. This Thanksgiving weekend provided us the opportunity to gather with family and friends and give thanks for all we enjoy living in Canada.

The events of the past weeks served as a concrete reminder how very important every one of us is to the board and to the students we serve. For the gift one another, we give thanks!

Since 2012, October 11 has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day highlights and addresses the needs and challenges girls around the world still face in 2019. On Friday I had the pleasure of joining young women from our secondary schools at Brescia for their International Day of the Girl Symposium. One of the morning activities asked the students to reflect on critical privileges that not all girls around the world enjoy. These include having food to eat; having a roof over one’s head; access to quality schooling; having the right to vote; choosing whether or not to get married; freedom to choose one’s religion; the privilege of pursing and having a career among others. Given limited funds students were asked to make decisions as to which privileges they could afford, privileges that we often take for granted living in Canada. For the privileges that we enjoy, we give thanks!
