School to Community Pathways

Our School to Community Pathways Program (SCPP) is designed to support secondary students with significant special needs. We offer students the opportunity to participate in an inclusive academic and social environment. All students have an individualized program (IEP) aimed at preparing them for life post 21. The SCPP classroom is where students work on specialized skills at their own pace and level under the supervision of a Special Education teacher (SPST) with the support of Educational Assistants. We focus on literacy, numeracy, personal life skills, and independence skills. We also offer two specialized programs SPSTs were trained to teach, the PEERS and JobPath courses. Students are integrated into a variety of credit or non-credit bearing classes such as, Drama, Music, Visual Arts, Health & Physical Education, Hospitality and Tourism and courses in our Social Studies, Religion and Business Departments. Senior students also take part in Co-operative Education experiences to learn valuable skills for the workplace.

PEERS: is designed for teens in high school to learn ways to make and maintain friendships. During this course, students are taught important social skills and given the opportunity to practice these skills through role playing and during real play activities (e.g., playing sports, board games, etc.).

JobPath: provides the opportunity for students in SCPP to learn about themselves and interact in a group setting while preparing for employment. This is an excellent transition tool for junior students with limited academic backgrounds who are planning to take Co-operative Education in the senior grades.
